Husband Invited Me on Fake Date

speed-racer.jpgI love it when he does this. The studios give my husband tickets to movie screenings. Sometimes there are famous people at the screenings, but other times it’s just for behind the scenes crew members like my husband.

He gets TWO tickets. Is it not logical that one would invite his girlfriend or wife? The other crew members seem to think so, as they ALL DO THAT. Oh no, not my husband. For the first two years, he would invite friends or our oldest CHILD.

Then one day I said, “HEY, I don’t complain about you working till 12 or 2am every night. I don’t gripe about not getting to do fun stuff because of your work schedule…BUT jerk dear, could ya at LEAST invite me to the FREE MOVIE SCREENINGS?”

His response: “But who will watch the kids?” Classic.

Because we moved so many times, we have usually been without babysitters–hence, few dates. Still, since that discussion, we have asked friends to watch the boys and gone to a few screenings together. I love them. It’s so fun, mainly because these are the only dates we have. (I KNOW, need to work on that, we’re both work-a-holics. And probably need therapy to fix that–ummm, but no time right now.)

Anyway, he has a screening to go to tonight for the movie “Speed Racer.” Trailer here, looks cute but typically Hollywood way overdone…BTW, how on EARTH is Susan Sarandon identical to how she looked 20 years ago? Also, how did Christina Ricci get hot? She used to be really strange…So, because we still don’t have a babysitter here, we both already assumed I would not be able to go.

BUT HOW CUTE that my husband still fake asked me. “Do you want to go to the screening for Speed Racer?” I barely got out the words “There is no one to babysit–” and he interrupted, “Oh okay, I’ll take John” (his good friend). Hm. So he obviously didn’t want to TAKE me, but he did ASK me. I see progress. (Yes, I realize how low I’ve sunk.)

    Any progress is progress!

    Amen!

And a little progress for my husband is equivalent to a ton of progress for other people. So if you look at it this way, WOW–he’s doing great!

I haven’t made it this far with my boyfriend. He’ll tell me about a show he’s going to, or a party, or whatever, and then not invite me.

Last night he was talking about a party he has to go to on Sunday, and then asked me what I was doing Sunday, which would normally be the prelude to an invitation…no, he was “just curious.”

I tried. I’ve started doing the same thing to him, since that’s usually the only way to get him to catch on.
